Cuan Saor & SEMRA
On Saturday last 9 March some of our members visited and had a tour of Cuan Saor Womens Refuge and SEMRA (South East Mountain Rescue). We presented both with cheques for €2,000 to help towards their fantastic work.
We really appreciate the tremendous voluntary work these organisations do.
Here we are demonstrating the use of a Bivvy bag. These can be a life saver if a walker has a fall while walking. These act like a tent and keep the person warm and dry until help arrives.

St. Theresa’s Hospital, Clogheen
The Rhododendron Walking Festival in association with Suil Eile did a 24 hour walking challSenge back in 2020 at the start of the pandemic to raise funds for an outdoor garden and patio area so patients of St. Theresa’s Hospital, Clogheen could enjoy an outdoor space during their stay.
In the meantime the hospital has undergone a major extension that has doubled the size of the hospital making it an invaluable facility for all the local communities and beyond. The fabulous outdoor garden space then followed the extension and not surprisingly is in daily use.
Members of the Rhododendron Walking Festival committee and Siul Eile were delighted to get a tour of the hospital and garden from Director of Nursing Anne Walsh

Climb for Charlie
We organised two climbs to support Charlie Bird on 2nd April. One first was in the Knockmealdowns and the other in the Galtees.
Together we raised a total of €1, 876 which we split between The Irish Motor Neurone Association and Pieta House.

South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA)
Last night SEMRA members met with the lovely men and women that make up the committee of Siul Eile and the Rhododendron Walking Festival at the Vee Pass above Bay Lough in the Knockmealdown Mountains. The committee made up of volunteers ran a virtual walking fundraiser for SEMRA over the Easter Weekend after launching an impressive #stepupforsemra campaign to raise awareness for the fundraiser and for SEMRA. Thanks to the committee and everyone that supported this fundraiser. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Donations and fundraisers like this help us to keep doing what we do 24/7 365 days of the year. 3rd July 2022
