Description
This walk starts over the county bounds in County Waterford. It is a nod to the Deise people who were some of the earliest settlers in Ireland, before the Anglo Normans arrived their land consisted of County Waterford, South Tipperary and part of Limerick.
This trail starting in County Waterford almost immediately picks up a footbridge over the Ownesheade stream between the Glendeish and Boggaghduv townslands. Not long into the trail amazing uninhibited views into the heart of the Knockmealdowns reveal themselves towering above the woodland. After crossing a shallow ford, the trail then joins up with the Blackwater Way trail leading to the statue above Bay Lough car park, then down to the lake itself surrounded with an amphitheatre of rhododendrons in bloom. The walk then follows the Bay Lough Loop down the Goats Path to another stunning vista of rhododendrons in full bloom at Loughglens Bridge, continuing to Kilballyboy Wood, then joining up with the Blackwater Way and East Munster Way trails back to Clogheen.
After checking back into Clogheen Hall, you will enjoy a hot meal, followed by dessert, with live music on stage.
This walk is ideal for those with a moderate level of fitness.
